Lantania completes construction of the Hernán-Valle Forest Defence Centre in Granada

  • The Regional Government of Andalusia inaugurates this facility, which will support Infoca’s ground, air and personnel resources

Madrid, 11 March 2025. Lantania, in a joint venture with Francisco Lucas, has completed the construction of the new Hernán-Valle Forest Defence Centre (Cedefo) in Guadix, in the province of Granada. This infrastructure, with an investment of 7 million euros, strengthens the capacities of the Andalusian Forest Fire Emergency Plan (Infoca), providing support for ground, air and personnel resources.

The Hernán-Valle Cedefo is a strategic hub for monitoring the eastern region of Andalusia, as it houses Infoca’s resources, enabling faster wildfire detection and suppression in Granada, Almería, and Jaén.

The Minister of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Antonio Sanz, has been in charge of inaugurating today this new facility, along with the Regional Government Delegate in Granada, Antonio Granados, the Technical Director of the Regional Operations Centre (COR), Cesar Vicente Fernandez, and the Mayor of Guadix, Jesus Lorente. All of them were accompanied by Lantania’s Business Development Director, José Nofuentes and the Civil Works Delegate for the South-Central Zone, Rubén Corral.

The new Cedefo covers a total area of 13.5 hectares. Lantania has upgraded and extended the runway to allow the parking of two light aircraft and six helicopters and has built two new platforms for aerial vehicles and complementary refuelling facilities.

The works included the construction of three buildings: one main office building for Cedefo’s activities, a facility for the temporary accommodation of the pilots assigned to the centre and a warehouse for parking, refuelling and filling firefighting trucks, among other activities. The entire infrastructure is located in an urbanised area of about 8,730.00 m², of which 2,165.95 m² corresponds to the built-up area, while the rest is for parking, manoeuvring, access and physical preparation spaces.

The project also included an access road and a new power line to serve the centre. The new Cedefo also has a sanitation network with collection and reuse of rainwater and a sewage treatment system. A well and a water treatment system have been built to provide the necessary hygienic conditions to supply the centre with drinking water.

The project has been financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
