Biosolids treatment plant in Al Badaa (Saudi Arabia)

Lantania is carrying out a turnkey contract (EPC) for the design, construction and commissioning of a biosolids treatment plant, an Innovation Centre and a Demonstration Centre in the town of Al Badaa, located in the Tabuk region in northwestern Saudi Arabia. This infrastructure will serve the Neom urban megaproject, currently under development.

The biosolids treatment plant, which will receive sludge from various treatment plants in the area, will have the capacity to treat 32,300 kg/day, equivalent to a population of 222,000 inhabitants. The facility will be equipped with the latest technology, the sludge will be dried by means of solar drying and a Sequential Biological Reactor (SBR) will be used for water treatment.

The Innovation Centre will serve to test new wastewater and biosolids treatment and recovery technologies that will be included in Neom’s future developments. This site will have four test benches, two laboratories and space for the location of the different technologies to be assessed.

The Biosolids Demonstration Centre will consist of an architecturally designed visitor centre with exhibition space, reception and viewing areas, test zones, a greenhouse, laboratories and support facilities.

The Al Badaa plant will serve the Neom urban megaproject. This futuristic megacity covering more than 25,660 km² is under construction in the Tabuk region as part of Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030’ plan, which aims to diversify the country’s economy and reduce its dependence on oil. The project is divided into several phases, with The Line city as its most striking feature: a 170 km long, car-free linear city with high-tech and environmentally sustainable infrastructure.
